Candice Avery

The work of this North American artist (Albion, Michigan, 1951) shows a surprising variety and a solid technique. The refined hyperrealism of her drawings captures every detail to the very last hair.

Her collages, on the other hand, display an unmistakable Pop aesthetics: every piece appears as a historic document dealing with added objects and words such as “always”, “waiting”, “burn”, “love”.

Behind a multitude of clocks, compasses, human figures, prominent figures of fiction and the large arrangement of collective images, we can discover the presence of this multifaceted woman (she is also a dancer) who worked for the ABC TV Network in 1978 and for the Radio City Music Hall. She has lived in 34 of the 50 states in the United States.
